Simon Gagne scores in overtime

Returning to the lineup with a broken toe, Flyers’ winger Simon Gagne redirected a pass from defenseman Matt Carle past Bruins’ goalie Tuukka Rask in overtime to give the Flyers a 5-4 win and keep them alive in the series, which Boston now leads three games to one. The Flyers were on the verge of a 4-3 win in regulation when Mark Recchi scored to tie the game with 30 seconds left. Refusing to fold, the Flyers continued to come at the Bruins in the extra session and a turnover at center enabled Mike Richards to carry the puck into the Boston zone and send a pass across to Carle at the point. Carle, who played a great game and had four assists, sent a perfect pass to Gagne behind the Bruins defense. Gagne redirected the pass under Rask for the win. Now they head back to Boston and will try to do it again.

Other thoughts from the game and series:
* Rask is a good goalie but is beatable. The Flyers have put a decent number of pucks past him in this series.
* Chris Pronger is everything the Flyers hoped for when they acquired him. He’s scored, played solid defense, and has calmly moved the puck out of the zone. He played over 35 minutes in Game 4.
* Scott Hartnell had his best game of the playoffs. He was a physical presence, a plus-two, and smartly kicked the puck from in front of Rask to Claude Giroux, who scored.
* Darroll Powe has been disappointing. He has speed and can check well but doesn’t score. In the last minute of regulation, he fanned on a clearing attempt at center ice, then from his own zone iced the puck, setting up the face off in the Flyers’ end that resulted in Recchi’s tying goal.
* The Bruins have lost two of their top forwards in this series in David Krecji and Marco Sturm. The Flyers have gotten back Gagne. Will this tilt things the Flyers’ way?
